Ensuring Continence in Difficult Cases Submission
Difficult Case submission for the 10th International EAUN Meeting, Stockholm,
18-20 March 2009, is available as of 1 September 2008 and closes on
1 December 2008.
Detailed information on the project Ensuring continence in difficult cases
At the recent International EAUN Meeting in Milan some colleagues remarked that in our latest Good Practice in Health Care series titled ‘The Male External Catheter’ (MEC) only ‘normal’ cases were described. Although it is common practice for a guideline to describe or focus on typical cases, the suggestion implies that there is a need for information on the use of MEC and other (in)continence devices in atypical cases such as retracted penis, anatomic abnormalities, allergic reactions, pressure sores.
This is where we need your help. If you are among those who encounter these problems in daily practice and have found your own solutions, we would like to invite you to take a few photos and write a standard protocol. You can download a form with a list of standard questions (see point 6 under Submission Criteria and Rules). The form should include a description of the problem, the nursing intervention provided, the material you have chosen to get the patient continent and the final results.
Together with the EAUN you will share and pass on this knowledge to other nurses. The 10 best cases are presented by the authors and discussed with the audience in a special session at the 10th International EAUN Meeting in Stockholm. The EAUN will place the material on her website as a unique opportunity to learn from each other. All submissions that meet the criteria will be published on the EAUN website and in European Urology Today.
Jury
The cases will be evaluated by an expert jury. The list of jury members will be completed after their confirmation. Jury members are:
• Ronny Pieters, Belgium (urology nurse)
• Eva Wallace, Ireland (urology nurse)
• Olaug Gimse Storrø, Norway (Nurse specialist in urological
gynaecology/sexologist)
• Birgit Holwe, Germany (Hollister Europe, Manager Continence Care)
• Steen Walter, Denmark (professor in urology)
